uly typically is one of the strongest months for Coast casinos and this July was another winner.
Gross casino revenue at the 12 properties across South Mississippi was $108.4 million, up $105.1 million, or 3 percent higher than a year ago, according to the Mississippi Department of Revenue.
That’s the best July since 2008 and follows a 6 percent increase in June. It’s also higher than the $101.7 million revenue in July 2005, the month before Hurricane Katrina.
Year-to-date revenue lagged in 2017, but two strong months brought the total to within $2 million of the total at this point last year.
July wasn’t a good month for Mississippi’s river casinos, which saw revenue fall to $84 million from $79 million a year ago, or a 5.5 percent decline. Total state casino revenue was $188 million, down $1 million or 0.7 percent from July 2016.
