Silver Slipper’s Hotel now open for business

HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) – Hancock County’s newest hotel is now open for business. The Silver Slipper Casino opened 72 of its 129 rooms over the Memorial Day Holiday weekend. The six story hotel opened to rave reviews. Brandon Poilion and his girlfriend are among the first guests to spend the night at the Sliver Slipper Casino Hotel. The couple drove over from Hammond, Louisiana for a Memorial Day weekend get-away.

Poilion said, “We just came over yesterday to hang-out and we just decided to get a room and this was a spontaneous decision.”

One, he said they are glad they made.

“The rooms are amazing. The views are spectacular. The rooms are clean. They are a pretty good size. They have TV’s and free internet,” explained Poilion.

The Silver Slipper Casino opened the rooms Friday. The six-story hotel includes nine penthouse suites and five junior suites .

“We have 72 rooms right now, the first three floors and they filled up immediately. The fourth floor should come online in the next ten days or so four and five, hopefully by the Fourth of July,” said John Ferrucci, who is the general manager of the Silver Slipper Casino & Hotel.

At that point it will have taken a little less than two years to complete the hotel. Construction problems early on delayed the work. But customers say it was well worth the wait.

“I slept like a baby,” said Herbert Badeaux of the New Orleans West Bank.

Tony Humphreys, of Birmingham, Alabama agreed with a fellow tourist.

“I think the rooms are really nice. All the amenities that you would want are in the rooms,” said Humphreys.

Tourism leaders said the new rooms put lodging opportunities in an area where rooms have never been available before.

GM Ferrucci said, “We hit the ground running. We got off to a wonderful start and we’re looking for great things.”

The Silver Slipper is planning a hotel grand opening sometime before the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Ferrucci said Photographer Ken Murphy’s art work is in every room, the lobby in the hallways and sitting areas all over the hotel. So guests can get a true taste and flavor of what the Mississippi Gulf Coast is all about.
