Borgata reveals ‘Welcome to the Show’ campaign

MGM Resorts International wants you to know there’s more to the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa than gambling. That goes for all its other properties, too.

“Welcome to the Show” is MGM’s first-ever corporate brand campaign. Locally, look for billboards advertising the theme on major highways leading into Atlantic City. And, through Oct. 9, visit Twitter.com/MGMResortsIntl daily for a chance to win a variety of resort packages, as well as the $40,000 grand prize.

Sure, you’ll still find slot machines, video poker and a variety of other popular table games at MGM’s casinos, but the campaign focuses on shows and concerts, dining, nightlife and retail options, spas and salons and more.

A major shift in its positioning from a hospitality and gaming company to an entertainment leader, the campaign was introduced during the Primetime Emmy Awards telecast on Sept. 17.

Trop introduces two poker games

Tropicana Atlantic City has two new poker games.

Asia Poker: Based on an ancient Chinese game, “13 Cards,” Asia Poker is played with the same 53-card deck that Pai Gow Poker uses and has many of the same basic principles. Players receive seven cards into which they form three separate hands of four cards (high), two cards (medium) and one card (low).

The objective is to outrank the dealer in at least two of the three hands. Hands are paid one-to-one, with no commission. A separate bonus bet, where the player’s hand is compared to a paytable, gives players more options and offers larger payouts.

Three Card Draw Poker: As the name implies, players have the chance to improve their original three card poker hand. Playing head-to-head with the dealer, an ante bet gets players into the game.

If they like their cards, players can match the ante and make an “In To Win” wager. Alternatively, they can match the ante and make a “Draw” wager, and discard one card and receive a replacement.

Players then can remain in the game, or fold and forfeit the ante. Bonuses are paid according to a paytable. A separate optional bonus bet increases a player’s chances for a payout.

In related news, Tropicana moved and completely renovated its poker room to a new, private location next to Boogie Nights. This spacious full-service non-smoking facility features 18 new poker tables with adjustable seats and 11 TVs.
