D’IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) –
The Indian tribe that owns Wind Creek Casino in Atmore, AL closed a deal Friday to buy land in D’Iberville, just west of the I-110 bridge.
Once upon a time, that land was considered prime casino development property. It just came out of Chapter 7 bankruptcy on March 14, 2016. Eleven days later, the PCI Gaming Authority closed a deal to take over ownership of the land.
The PCI Gaming Authority released a statement saying they monitor events throughout the Southeast looking for interesting investment opportunities.
“This particular property was brought to our attention and after evaluation we felt it represented an excellent investment opportunity that, regardless whether we pursue development now, in the future, or never, the land holds its value,” the statement read.
“We continue to evaluate development opportunities and the Mississippi Gulf Coast gaming market is one we may seek to enter at some future time.”
It should be noted, this will not be considered tribal land. If the Poarch Creek Indians ever turn it into a casino project, they’ll be subject to the same gaming regulations as every other Mississippi casino company.
